YORK US 30 REUNION & NOSTALGIA NATIONALS 2009

  DVD #161

This one hundred and six minute video includes footage from the 2009 York US 30 Reunion held at the York County Fairgrounds in York, Pa. and drag racing action from the Nostalgia Nationals held at Beaver Springs Dragway.  The Reunion segment looks at the terrific group of cars that came out to the show and the special people who own them.  We saw everything from Stockers to Dragsters.

Ford was the feature brand for the 2010 show and a great group of cars made an appearance on the show floor and on the drag strip.  This was the first time we had a chance to see Gas Ronda’s 65 A/FX Mustang and it is absolutely beautiful.  The 422 Motorsports Gang was at the show and they had their hot running Ford Nostalgia Super Stockers on the show floor.  The 422 fleet joined a host of other Thunderbolts, Comets, Mustangs and full size FE powered Galaxies including the Fermier/Amos 406 B/S ‘62 Galaxie.

There were plenty of great cars from the other manufactures at the show as well  and I was really impressed with Dave Strickler 1965 Altered Wheel Base Dodge.  A group of American Motors Cars were all done up in their red, white and blue paint jobs and the contingent was led by the Doug Thorley Flip Top AMX Funny Car.  Chevrolet was well represented by a group of Super Stockers including the ‘62 and ‘63 Old Reliable race cars.

We also did some personal interviews with show attendees and you will learn the story behind several cars including; Sam Auxier’s Pro Stock Pinto, Salty’s Shaker 55 Tbird, Kenny Warren’s Virginia Twister Funny Car, Huston Platt’s Dixie Twister Camaro Funny Car, Al Joniac’s SOHC powered ‘69 Mustang among others.  We also talked with Jim Pizzi, brother of the late Tony Pizzi, about Tony’s  short but impressive career.  Randy Bramwell told us about his Don Turner tribute Tbolt and we also have a story about a special piece of collectible  memorabilia from the Hurst Corporation.  We have also included a story featuring George Weiler and a collection of jackets he was offering for sale in the vendors area.  Neat story.

The scale model car area was full of great projects and you will see many of them along with an interview with two of the craftsmen that work magic on these miniature works of art.

The York Nostalgia Nationals drag racing action takes place at Beaver Springs Dragway in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  We begin by looking at some time trial runs by both the Nostalgia Super Stockers and the Gassers.   I caught some great shots of the cars from behind the starting line.  It was also cool to see a flag starter being used to start the cars during the time trial action.  After the Super Stockers cleared the track the wild Gassers came up for their shot at the track.  Cool stuff.

There were 44 Nostalgia Super Stockers at the event and you will see both of their qualifying passes and then the final round in several of the race classes.  Jay Zolko won the NSS class in the  Dyno Don ‘64 Mercury Comet Station Wagon and we talk to him about his winning effort.

It just seems that this show gets better and better each year and 2009 is no exception.  Order your copy now!
