1998 MID WEST HOT ROD REUNION
#139

BEE ON VIDEO is proud to announce the release of an event video that covers all the color and excitement of the first annual NHRA MID-WEST HOT ROD REUNION held at National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio on September 25-27, 1998.  This event was NHRA's first attempt at producing an East Coast version the very popular California Hot Rod Reunion.  The event  gave attendees a chance to take in a car show, browse through an automotive parts market, mingle with heroes of the past and present, take pictures of historic drag racing vehicles and watch some entertaining drag racing action.  Now you might  be wondering  why it has taken so long to release this production, well there is a reason, but I don't want to give away the ending.  The Grand Marshall of the event was the ever popular "Ohio" George Montgomery.  George had just finished restoring his famous '33 Willys and it was absolutely gorgeous.  I did an interview with Ohio George and had him describe his drag racing history.  You won't want to miss that interview.  I also interviewed Hubert Platt and learned that he was a Gas Class Champion back in the early 1960's.  This is a part of Hubert's career that had eluded me.  We also showcase the numerous Gasser vehicles that came out to the event.  I have also included an original movie of a 1936 Willys factory road test.   It is a classic.  The event sponsor was JEG'S Automotive of Columbus, Ohio and Jeg Coughlin, Sr. brought out his AA/G Austin.  We even filmed it running down the track. There was also a large group of Super Stock cars at the show and I made sure I caught their action in the pits and on the track.  I also had a chance to interview Bob Harrop about his 1961 Pontiac and it is a very interesting story.  We also got to see Fast Eddie Schartman and George Weiler make a pass down the track.  There was a best of three match race between Rob Bruce and his 1966 Zombie Pontaic GTO From Hell and Brian Kohlman and his AWB '65 Bell Dodge.  Both of these early funny cars ran on fuel and put on a great show.  The racing program also included an eight car Top Fuel field as well as a Gas and Super Stock eliminator. Exhibition runs by Bruce Larson and his '68 USA 1 Camaro Fuel Funny Car and the Rat Trap AA Fuel Altered are also featured.  I also did an interview with a guy who brought out three Junior Stock cars.  I really enjoyed these cars as they reminded me of the cars I watched every weekend back in the day.  This productions runs for two full hours and I am sure you will enjoy the show.  And, oh yes, there is a surprise ending. This video is fully narrated with a story line that runs on top of the video action.
