TRI-CITIES DRAGWAY 50TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION

DVD #166

This one hour and thirty-eight minute video covers all the activities of the Tri-Cities 50th Anniversary Reunion at Endicott, NY on June 10th and 11th 2011.. This is the first time the people who frequented Tri-Cities got together as a group since the track closed in 1971.

We begin by looking at the kickoff gathering of cars in the parking lot of the Broome County Boys and Girls club. From there the cars parade to the Showplace Theater in the Binghamton Plaza for a mini car show. The evening concludes with a musical concert featuring the Rip Chords doing their signature song “Hey Little Cobra.”

On Saturday we went to the site of the Tri-Cities Airport in Endicott and had a chance to check out all the activities taking place on the show grounds. There was a great assortment of cars ranging from antique 1930's and 1940's street cars to modern day performance machines. We even had some original drag racing vehicles form the 1960's and 70's.

We also had a chance to interview numerous event attendees and we captured some great stories about the cars and times at Tri-Cities. The highlight of the afternoon was the First Annual Tri-Cities Dragway Hall of Fame induction ceremony.  Frank HeemanWally BellDoug Crockett and Bob Chipper were the charter group to receive the award. Unfortunately Bob Chipper was unable to attend the event due to illness so I included a special story about his racing career complete with some vintage film footage from our Bee On Video film library. Sadly Bob passed away on July 10, 2011. Bob was a former NHRA National Event winner so you won’t want to miss this story.

We have also included some flashback original movie footage to show you what it was like at Tri-Cities back in the 1960's. We also show some footage of Duffek Dragway in Owego, NY when Doug Crockett took home a trophy with the E/G ‘55 Chevy. The track even had a concrete starting line back in the day. The flashback footage is a great blend of the old with the new.

From all indications this event will become an annual get together and if you are ever in the area it is a must see. This video runs one hour and thirty-eight minutes or 98 minutes in length. I trust that it keep you entertained and informed about the history of upstate New York Drag Racing. Order your copy now for only $24 delivered to your door!
